AI Agents Are Becoming Operational Infrastructure
Agents stop being a demo the moment they own a repeatable business step. A practical framing for where they belong today.

From assistant to operator
An AI agent becomes useful when it owns a bounded, repeatable step — qualifying an enquiry, drafting a reply, reconciling a report — with a clear definition of done.
Broad autonomy is where projects fail. Narrow scope with a human checkpoint is where value shows up in the first month.
Design for the failure case
Assume the agent will be wrong occasionally. Log every action, make each step reversible, and route uncertainty to a person instead of guessing.
Measure it like a process, not a toy
Track handling time, error rate and escalation rate before and after. If those numbers do not move, the agent is decoration.
